Verizon scrapes $350M off Yahoo acquisition deal

Internet pioneer Yahoo Inc. has agreed to sell its core business to Verizon for $350 millions less than the originally negotiated price tag of $4.83 billion, the struggling web company confirmed on Tuesday.

Reports about a potential price cut had been swirling around the web for the past many weeks as Yahoo’s reputation suffered a major setback due to hacking scandals.

A premature baby hippo at the Cincinnati Zoo is recovering from dehydration after staff from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center provided her with the IV fluids she needed, zoo officials announced.

The four-week-old female hippo, who has been named Fiona, received fluids through an IV catheter. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center staff was called after the zoo’s veterinary staff could not arrange a sustained IV.

The Minnesota Department of Health on Thursday reported the first flu-related death of a child this season, while Oklahoma health officials reported a drastic increase in the total number of deaths from the contagious infection.

Flu-related deaths in children are quite rare, but the infection claims a few children’s lives in Minnesota every year. During the 2016 flu season, Minnesota saw three child deaths from flu. In 2014-15, the state saw 10 pediatric fatalities.

If middle-aged adults want to decrease their chances of being diagnosed with diabetes, then they should maintain or lose some weight, as a new study finds that weight gain of less than three over ten years may increase chances of getting Type-2 diabetes by 52 percent.

Researchers found that if everyone who gained weight and then maintained it, regardless of their starting weight, one in five of all Type-2 diabetes cases in the population could have been prevented.
