Professor Premi Matthew and her daughter funded a zero-cost breast cancer awareness campaign called Protect Your Mom (PYM) to raise awareness about the life-threatening breast cancer.
Professor Premi said that the main concept of the awareness program is to teach adults with the help of kids. The camping aims at educating children about the ill-effects of breast cancer. Premi also said, “Once kids are aware of how severe breast cancer can be and how simple it is to cut down the suffering of dealing with the disease, they will relentlessly pester their moms to go for regular mammograms”.
The first large scale event of Protect Your Mom was held on Saturday at Tea Junction in Oud Metha, in association with the UAE’s well-known youth group, The Republic. During the event, the boys of the group shaved their heads to show the side effect of chemotherapy, which is complete hair loss. The slogan of the event was “we choose to go bald so that our moms don’t have to”.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has cautioned that breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women. A simple regular check can save lives and is the most effective measure of early detection.
