Michelle Obama Ends Solo Tour to Meet With Desmond Tutu

Michelle Obama ended her solo tour of Africa meeting Desmond Tutu in Cape Town. The pair spoke at Cape Town Stadium on Thursday to remind children special people and to engage themselves in sports to maintain healthy lifestyles.

Due to the unpredictable weather, Michelle was unable to travel to Robben Island to visit the prison where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in captivity.

To make up for the cancellation, Michelle and Desmond Tutu spoke to an audience of children in Cape Town. She urged younger children to take good care of their bodies and joined them in kicking soccer balls and shooting hoops with them.

The US Embassy’s Elizabeth Trudeau states that Michelle and her family were quite upset about missing the opportunity to visit the historical prison. To make up for it, the family visited the District Six Museum that showcases the removal of an entire community during apartheid.

Michelle and her daughters have been in Africa since Tuesday. They plan to go on a private safari before leaving.
