It has been found through a new report that Datawind has not been informed by the HRD Ministry regarding restrictions to participate in the new tender. The company has claimed that it has not received any word from the government in the matter.
As per the findings, Datawind is the maker of Aakash tablet and is known for making the world's cheapest computer tablet. The tablet, which has been launched for the benefit of Indian students, was first sold to the government on October 5 at a cost of Rs 2,276.
It is being said that some quality issues were raised after the sale of the tablet and it was being suspected as a true Indian product. Therefore, the government had also called C-DAC and ITI into the act and asked it to ensure that the product was completely original.
''There have been some problems with Datawind I must confess. Therefore, I have got into the act. IT ministry has got C-DAC and ITI into the act and I am going to ensure that this product is fully indigenous and truly an Indian product", told former Communications and IT Minister Kapil Sibal.
He further added that the manufacturer of the product, Datawind would be no more associated with Aakash tablet and C-DAC and ITI would be responsible for the development of the project in future. Also, Aakash-II would probably be sold at the same price as the previous tablet, the report adds.
Besides, it is also being said by the minister that no matter who produces the product, it should always be in sync with the defined quality standards. Children should be handed over only quality products.
