In a much needed move, the Greenpeace India activists have come forward to make an appeal to computer maker Apple to use renewable energy in order to facilitate its data centres worldwide. With the corporate giant using tones of coal to manage its data centres, the local activists are appealing the customers of the company to endorse their drive.

While such protests are being run at Apple stores (iCloud) in six countries across the world, in India a billboard has been placed in front of Apple's India head office at UB City, with message of 'Clean our Cloud' printed on it, thereby making their protest loud and clear.

As many as 200,000 people have agreed to endorse Greenpeace's petition, which calls for the computer maker to assure that they would use clean energy for its iCloud. There is need for such efforts to be made on constant basis so that use of clean energy can be promoted.

“The report found that Google and Yahoo are showing commitment to clean energy while Apple, Amazon and Microsoft rely heavily on dirty, outdated coal and nuclear energy to deliver their digital services”, said Greenpeace campaigner Mrinmoy Chattaraj, who is of the view that they are approaching almost all IT firms with cloud services for the same purpose.
