NHS Managers Planning To Consider Age Factor over Deprivation for Health Funding Formula

NHS Managers Planning To Consider Age Factor over Deprivation for Health Funding

As per recent reports, it has been subjected that controversial plans are being taken into account by senior NHS managers, so as to chart out ways in which, NHS annual budget of £100bn is to be spent in different parts of England.

It is being believed that if these considerations are brought into action, then a majority of NHS money will be spent on the older populations, instead of the younger generation in England, who reside in poorest areas.

It has been reported that at present, poor areas of the country are being given more share of the NHS money; they receive more money per head of population, in comparison to richer areas. It is being proposed that the plan will bring about equalities amongst the population.

However, under this plan, which is being supported by Health Secretary Andrew Lansley, it is being administered that the health mangers are taking into account age factor of the population, instead of deprivation, to determine the distribution of NHS funds. Moreover, even senior health economists have backed the plan.

However, critics said, “The shift is being backed by the Government because the areas which would benefit are primarily Conservative strongholds while those which would lose out vote Labour”.
