In 1885 he was awarded the title 'Goldsmith by special appointment to the Imperial Crown' by Tsar Alexander III for his superb craftsmanship. There have been many famous works done by him but the most famous is the replica of a 4th century BC gold bangle from the Scythian Treasure in the Hermitage. That piece was so immaculate that even Tsar was unable to distinguish it from the original.
