A lot many loop-holes were being noticed at the current dental scheme, which costs approximately $1 billion to Australian economy and that too in a year. One of the biggest short comings was that low-income families were not able to access the scheme.
Australian Government had a detailed discussion on the matter. After having series of brainstorming sessions, they have decided that they will introduce a new dental scheme. The new scheme will be introduced in 2014 and would cost the government $4 billion.
The package which is more like a government-subsidized scheme will provide benefit to as many as three million children. Health Minister Tanya Plibersek was of the view that the new scheme will make sure that low-income people are able to get regular checkups. The time will move back to the era where prevention was given more importance.
"Labor believes we have a responsibility to ensure Australians who are least able to afford to go the dentist, and particularly children, should be given access”, said Plibersek.
Greens Senator Richard Di Natale was quite happy to know that the new dental scheme is going to be launched. He takes the announcement as the first step towards a perfect dental care.
